How to create a ZIP file online

ZIPFileCreator turns any set of files or folders into a standard .zip archive in four steps — no software to install, no account and no upload.

  1. 01

    Add files or folders

Drag them into the drop zone or use Add Files / Add Folder. Mix as many as you like.

  2. 02

    Review the file tree

See every file and folder with its size. Remove single files or whole folders with one click.

  3. 03

    Pick compression & name

Choose Store, Fast, Normal or Maximum and give your archive a name.

  4. 04

    Create & download

Watch the live progress bar, then the ZIP saves straight to your device.

Which ZIP compression level should you use?

ZIP archives use the DEFLATE algorithm. Higher levels search harder for repeated data, which makes files smaller but takes longer. How much you save depends on the file type, not just the level.

LevelSpeedSizeBest for
Store (0)FastestUnchangedPhotos, videos, music, existing archives — bundling only
Fast (1)Very fastGoodLarge mixed batches when time matters
Normal (6)BalancedBetterEveryday use — the standard default of most zip tools
Maximum (9)SlowestSmallestText, code, CSV, JSON, logs, documents, email attachments

Private by design

The JSZip engine runs inside your browser tab. Your files are read from disk, compressed in memory and saved back to disk — they never touch a server.

Folder structure preserved

Drop a project folder and every subfolder path is kept inside the archive, so it unzips exactly as it was — including empty folders.

Works everywhere

Standard ZIP with UTF-8 file names that opens natively on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, plus 7-Zip, WinRAR and The Unarchiver.

Frequently asked questions

How to zip files online without software?

Open ZIPFileCreator in any modern browser, drag your files or folders into the drop zone (or click Add Files / Add Folder), pick a compression level, type an archive name and click Create & Download ZIP. The archive is built in your browser and saved straight to your device — no installation required.

Are my uploaded files private and secure?

Yes. Your files are never uploaded. ZIPFileCreator reads them locally with JavaScript and builds the ZIP archive in your browser's memory, so nothing is sent to any server. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it keeps working.

What compression level should I choose?

Use Normal / Balanced for most jobs. Choose Maximum for text, code, CSV, logs and documents when the smallest file matters. Choose Fast for large batches when speed matters. Choose Store for files that are already compressed (JPG, PNG, MP4, MP3, ZIP) — it is the fastest and the size barely changes anyway.

Can I zip an entire folder online?

Yes. Drag a folder into the drop zone or use the Add Folder button. ZIPFileCreator keeps the complete folder and subfolder structure inside the ZIP archive, including empty folders when dropped.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit, but because the archive is built in your browser's memory, the practical limit depends on your device's RAM. Most desktop browsers handle archives of 1–2 GB comfortably; mobile devices are lower.

Will the ZIP open on Windows, macOS and Linux?

Yes. ZIPFileCreator produces standard ZIP archives using DEFLATE compression with UTF-8 file names, which open with the built-in tools on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, as well as 7-Zip, WinRAR and The Unarchiver.
